Not about the times. It's about spending for what is right.
Problem is. Lies from the past haunt the future.

Either way. Refurbish or consolidation. It's Mega Bucks and not from the VA lottery. But from the Citizens of Wise Co.

Projections down the road is what no one is considering. Do you refurbish again in 20 yrs or consolidate? At an even more alarming cost for either.

Do what is best kids and economically. Either way if your in WC your gonna pay more in taxes.

    Re: Wise Tax hike?

The most economical without a doubt is consolidation.

You can spend less building 3 schools now or you can spend more refurbishing 6 schools and then in 10-15 years spend that again on the stuff that didn't get fixed this time around so then your at double the cost of 3 new schools that if done right won't need anything for 20 years and then it will pale in comparison to what it would have been to not consolidate.

There is noone with more school pride than me, GO BLUE KNIGHTS, but I am all for consolidation since it is what is the most logical and economical answer.

    Re: Wise Tax hike?

I have made no secret in the past that I think consolidation into 3 new schools is the best answer however I fear that now that the rubber is hitting the road that the Citizens of Wise Co. (most without kids in school) will NOT fund what is best for the kids but for what is the cheapest and we could end up with the worst of both worlds (Consolidation into 3 renovated schools)

Heck the same things are going on in DC who's consolidation seems to have got stuck in Limbo with the latest rumors being that students may be shuffled around and Clinchco Elementary would be refurbished to become the consolidated HS

In both Wise and DC I hope that the right think is done

That would be just plum tarded, but I can see them doing it and then standing around with their chests all pumped up and saying look how much money we saved and most of the people here happy and agreeing only looking at the right now dollar signs and caring that it will be triple the cost in 15 years.

    Re: Wise Tax hike?

I can see those in power attempting to do that. I have been in 5 of the 6 county schools and PV is the only building worth a darn.

St Paul should have been consolidated with Coeburn long ago. SPHS is a joke.

Not going against consolidation or anything but just curious as to why you believe SPHS is such a joke.

I'm sure the building was top notch in 1890, but it just isn't up to snuff now.

Actually I believe that Saint Paul High School is the newest building in Wise County. They are the only one to have air conditioning.
